Hub Cymru Africa Grant Award

Date Posted: 10 January 2017

Vale for Africa have been successful in securing a grant that will enable Vale for Africa to establish its own ‘flash mob’ volunteer force.

The organisation has been awarded £996 from a grant scheme run by Hub Cymru Africa and Welsh Government.

Chair, Gareth Kiddie, explained:

As a small charity we organise an annual programme of fundraising events to support our project work in Africa. This year we are organising a barn dance, a mass choir event and a summer party. To ensure these events run smoothly we need additional volunteers to be on hand to help us out on the day. We are not looking for a huge time commitment, just occasional support.

The grant will be used to provide branded T-shirts for all volunteers, event banners and promotional materials.

Gemma Hicks, the charity’s Secretary said,

We are deeply grateful for the grant. It provides us with the boost we need to help raise the profile of Vale for Africa. Our charity relies on the fantastic generosity of the people of the Vale to help fund our projects, but it is our volunteers that enable us reach out to the public. The next fundraiser is a ‘bag-pack’ event kindly being hosted by Tescos main store in Barry on 28th January. We are looking hoping that our new flash mob will spring into action.

Come and join us!

We are asking for volunteers to sign up to undertake a 2 hour shift at Tesco in Barry on Saturday 28th January 2017, helping customers pack bags at the tills starting at 10.00 am, 12 noon, or 2.00 pm.
